MARRS was first set up in 2021 in response to protect Afghan Musicians. A shared Northern Ireland - Afghanistan Music project was the connection.
Musicians/Artists in asylum seeking & refugee status from other countries of origin started reaching out to us for support, so MARRS opened to all seeking sanctuary.
"Whether you were born in Northern Ireland, have lived here for years or arrived five minutes ago - Belfast City of Music belongs to you "
“I thought my life was at an end when I was forced to leave my home country. I was stuck in a hotel room knowing no-one and with no hope. Then I was introduced to Beyond Skin charity and now I’m teaching guitar to people and doing what I love. It has literally saved my life.”
"You need to give a platform and access to show people what they do and their skills. Once that happens the asylum seeker / refugee identity label is gone"
